How We Make Money
FTC Disclosure — Last updated: April 2026
The short version
TaxClear earns money through referral partnerships with tax relief professionals. If you use one of our tools and then request a referral to a professional, we may receive a fee from that professional if you become their client. This fee does not change what you pay.
What this means in practice
- Our tools (OIC calculator, penalty calculator, notice decoder) are free and will always be free. You can use them anonymously without sharing your email or any contact information.
- Our guides are written to be accurate and neutral. We do not adjust guide content to favor partners.
- When we include a referral link or partner CTA, we label it clearly with an affiliate disclosure banner.
- We only refer to professionals we have vetted. We do not sell leads to any party that pays us the highest amount without regard for fit.
Types of revenue
1. Pay-per-lead referrals
Some tax relief firms pay us a flat fee when a user submits a contact form and confirms interest. The fee is typically between $30 and $150 per qualified lead, depending on the firm and the user's situation. This fee is paid by the firm, not by you.
2. Revenue-share referrals
Some firms pay us a percentage of fees collected from users we refer, if and when those users become paying clients. This is disclosed individually on pages where such partners appear.
3. Display advertising (none, currently)
We do not currently run display advertising. If we ever do, we will update this page.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- We do not accept payment to write favorable reviews or guides.
- We do not rank professionals based on how much they pay us.
- We do not recommend services we would not use ourselves.
How to identify affiliate content
Any page or section that includes a referral link to a commercial partner is labeled with a disclosure banner that reads: "This page contains referral links. We may earn a fee if you become a client. This does not affect our editorial content."
