About TaxClear

What TaxClear is

TaxClear is an educational website. We build free tools and plain-English guides to help people understand their IRS tax debt options before they commit to any course of action — or spend money on professional help.

Most people who owe the IRS have more options than they realize: installment agreements, penalty abatement, Offers in Compromise, currently-not-collectible status, and more. We explain each one without the jargon, the pressure, or the sales pitch.

What TaxClear is not

We are not a law firm. We are not a tax resolution company. We are not CPAs or Enrolled Agents. Nothing on this site is legal advice, tax advice, or a substitute for professional guidance. We cite primary sources (IRS.gov, the Internal Revenue Code, IRS publications) so you can verify everything we write.

Our approach

  • Tools first. Start with a calculator or lookup tool, not a lead form.
  • Sources cited. Every guide links to the IRS source material it draws from.
  • No upsells. Our tools are free and anonymous. No email required to use them.
  • Transparent about referrals. When we recommend a professional service, we explain why and whether we earn a referral fee. See how we make money.

Who built this

TaxClear was built by a small team frustrated by the gap between confusing IRS notices and the aggressive sales tactics of tax relief companies. We believe people deserve clear, neutral information first.

If you spot an error, an outdated figure, or a missing source, please reach out. Accuracy is the whole point.

Accuracy & updates

IRS rules, interest rates, and penalty percentages change. We review all guides annually at minimum and update them whenever the IRS makes a material change. Each guide displays its last-reviewed date.

Current IRS interest rate and penalty figures are sourced directly from IRS.gov and updated quarterly.
